My hair is falling out by the handful, anybody know why?

I am 20 weeks pregnant and I've noticed the past couple of weeks my hair falling out by the handful when I wash it. Also, there is loads of hair on my bathroom floor from brushing it. I have to sweep everyday. I know hormones do weird things to your body. Is this normal? If so, am I lacking something from my diet. Everyone says your hair should be super pretty when your pregnant, mine just breaks and falls out.

It is better to get it checked to rule out any deficiencies. Badly damaged hair breaks at the scalp. To treat hair loss apply a little lemon juice with some black tea. Massage well and shampoo. I had that problem and it turned out I had an underactive thyroid. Just mention the hair loss to your dr.

mine did that for the first five months, but dont worry it is fine.

it eventually stopped about month 6. my doc said it was just due to hormones and not to worry too much. hope this helps.

That happened to me when i wasn't pregnant. It was an iron defficiency, it may be the same now. Definitely call your doctor or nurse advice line just to make sure it isn't anything serious.

Also, everyone told me my hair would NOT fall out during pregnancy, but it did. It wasn't luscious or super pretty, it just got straighter.

LOL I thought the same thing. It is normal. It grows back!!! I had a receiving hair line!!! LOL It will grow back its those crazy hormones!!!! Good Luck God Bless and congrats!!!
