Any tips I can use on my daughters hair?

My daughter has long naturally curly hair. When it is wet it is to her waist. When it is humid out, it gets pretty frizzy, when it is dry it looks real pretty and kind of does natural ringlets. She is 9 and has a difficult time brushing it out as it should be. She always wants it in a pony tail because it hurts her when I comb her hair out and get all the snarls out. Any suggestions on shampoo or conditioners I can use on her hair that will make her hair more manageble? I plan to cut it this summer, not short but shorter, she will be going to camp for 1 week and I know she will come back with one big knot if I keep it long. I figure it would be easier for her to take care of her hair while there. Anybody here with hair like hers? Can you give me some pointers?

We must have the same daughter ;o). I have a 9 year old with the same issues %26amp; hair. She uses scrunchies %26amp; headbands often, but here are some of our tricks:

1.) After she washes her hair, spray on, or brush in a leave in conditioner. Let it air dry (mine usually goes to sleep with it still damp.

2.) use a plant mister with water to wet %26amp; comb out her hair every morning. Then we use a leave in conditioner cream and a curl activator - really. It helps to hold the curls together with less frizz. The stuff we use comes from a salon. It's made by AG hair cosmetics. We use the re-coil activator %26amp; fastfood conditioner.

One thing that I have seen that works, is garnier fructis. Or get some curl scruncher from Sally Beauty Supply. But garnier has fruit waxes. Main thing is brush it when its wet or use a comb/pick, but don't try brushing it when its dry. Only makes it worse.

Keep it braided at night. That was my trick. And use a spray on conditioner if you need to comb it while it's dry, otherwise try Frizz Ease serums.

some tips would be...to make sure that when you brush it out...use a pick..b/c a brush only seperates the hair strands more...making it more frizzy...and then..when you do detangle it..you could try detangler spray...to help loosen the knots...and then it's less painful for her...and once your done..if you don't want to ruin her hair with products..you could use gloss drops which nourish the hair...hope it helps

I have very similar problems with my hair so I know what she's goin through. When u have it cut, have it cut just longer than her shoulders ( so it's still long, but short enough to be easier to care for). Then, wash it with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Leave the conditioner on for a while. Afterward, either comb it with ur fingers or use a pick. Then, let it air dry and put it up in a scrunchie before bed so that it doesn't tangle. The next morning, take it down and scrunch a smoothing balm in it. It works wonders for mine! Good Luck!

Well first, dont brush it when its dry, every curly haired girls worst nightmare!! It put me in tears!! You do have to brush it so have her brush it when its wet after she uses conditioner, conditioner will make it much easier and if you brush it after shampooing it will be just as hard. You can try Herbal Essence shampoos and Conditioners that are made just for curly hair or any other kind, a little bit of mousse could help as well, but you may just want to cut it, a little below her shoulders, anything shorter could end up frizzball or odd looking. Good luck
