The skin looks like fish scales in many spots some of them come off when he is brushed and he always has dead skin falling off and now his topcoat of hair or falling out in places and i have no clue i have never seen this before i have bathed him with oatmeal shampoo for dry skin and a few others but nothing seems to work and i wanted to see if anyone on here might have any ideas thanks

what are you feeding him? Diet can be a HUGE cause of skin/fir problems... Dogs need QUALITY dog food to stay healthy... but I still advise you to take him to a vet, because its better to be safe than sorry, and a vet can proscribe supplements that your dog will need to speed the healing.

Its not just dry skin, the dog has a skin condition that needs a vet to look at.....please take to the vet, normal dry skin, is not gonna look like fish scales....,.

it might have candita. my dog has it just keep giveing it baths . baby shampoo might help and take it to a vet

Please take it to the vet. It must have been suffering for the whole time you are thinking what it is. Your dog has a skin condition cause by fleas or ticks or it has skin fungus. Please take your poor dog to the vet asap.

this started occuring more and more frequently in my dog, starting at about age 5. Don't worry about it - it's totally natural for a dog! The skin just shows he's getting older....When it happened to my dog, I was so grossed out and worried I practically ran to the vet, who reassured me that noting was wrong.
However, since I don't know for sure what your dog's problem is, take him to the vet for a complete check up.
The probability of it being serious is below 1%, but better safe than sorry.
