get an undercoat rake. It's a special brush that actually looks like a small rake. I have a pappillion %26amp; a border collie, both who get the knotting that your talking about. If you use it on dry hair twice weekly it will keep them out.

wow. that's a tough one...
i have seen people deal with puppy knots by cutting or shaving them off.
you could visit a professional dog groomer and let them do it and have them tell you what they did... then for next time you would have the right comb and conditioner.
skip the shampoo... it makes the hair squeaky clean by removing the oils and the knots will be stronger after. use lots of conditioner, work it in and try quick short comb strokes at the top of the knot closer to her body and work it through to the end.
good luck, its nice to see how much you love your dog~!

Yeah right..."overnight"-heard *that* one before-HA!
To start=It's MATT! Your dog is MATTED!!
*YOU*have to groom Poms EVERY DAY!!Throughly,ALL OVER,making SURE you get all the way to the skin.
. *YOU* have to TEACH it to accept,if not enjoy, this. Put it across your lap %26amp; start at the head %26amp; DO IT! When one side is done, turn it over %26amp; repeat. BELLY,TOO! Use a steel comb %26amp; a then a pin-brush.
NEVER wash before your dog is COMPLETELY combed out. Washing only makes matts WORSE!
DO NOT WASH too often!! A couple/three times a YEAR is enough!
PS: You DIDN'Tget the dog from a reputable breeder,DID YOU??? Such wouldn't have let you out the door w/out the correct tools %26amp; a lesson!

There are several good commercial products available... check out any site for folks who show dogs.
However, for a low cost solution to matting (knots), try mayonaise

You are supposed to brush poms every day but, since that is almost impossible, they will always get knots!
Mine sure does. He thinks brushing is an opportunity to play and bite at my fingers!
We have had very little luck combing out the knots. The best thing to do is cut them out. Clear as much hair out as possible and cut out the knot. They have so much hair, you don't notice.
I keep my poms hair cut like a lion in the summer, with his mane full and long and the rest cut short, which helps some.
