Wanting to buy a double edge safety razor for my boyfriend for Christmas. Already have a badger hair brush and lather kit, but need to know the difference in the straight and open edge razors. Any recommendations?

open edges ones can be a bit costly...but they give the best shave...also it may be a bit embarrassing if u give a double edge razor to ur bf and he doesn't know how to use it...those things are antique around here....

Straight razors have pretty well gone the way of the dodo, and so have double-edged saftey razors. Why? They simply do not give as good a shave as the modern triple-edged razors. You can still buy the old style razors, just google "razors" and you will find places selling them. However, in my opinion and experience the modern razors give a lot better shave. You will still need the brush and lather.
