What are good tips on maintaining and caring for my hair extentions?

i'm getting hair extentions tomorrow, and i wanted to know everything i need to know about taking care of them such as: brushing methods, washing methods, styling methods, etc. please help!

What are good tips on maintaining and caring for my hair extentions?

If you use your extension daily, I suggest that a monthly washing may be in order; use your good judgement. Maintaining these pieces requires considerably less time and effort than human hair.

After taking the piece off, if there are tangles or some matting, which is normal from the hair rubbing against the body, please finger out from the bottom up, not from the top down.

Avoid high heat areas such as baking, saunas and steam rooms.

I found this to be most helpful!

Your extension is a valuable part of your ensemble

Treat it with TLC for maximum enjoyment

We suggest using specially formulated wig care products for best results

1. If you use your extension daily, we suggest that a monthly washing may be in order; use your good judgement. Maintaining these pieces requires considerably less time and effort than human hair.

2. We suggest using the "Sheen Spray" after using; it helps to restore style and shine between shampoos.

3. After taking the piece off, if there are tangles or some matting, which is normal from the hair rubbing against the body, please finger out from the bottom up, not from the top down. Lightly spray and "scrunch" with your hand to distribute spray and regenerate the curls.

4. NEVER USE HEAT ON THE PIECE (e.g. baking, hot rollers, curling irons, blow dryers, etc.). Avoid high heat areas such as baking, saunas and steam rooms.

Only use the shampoo, conditioner and brush that the salon provides you with, don't put conditioner near your roots, and if you want to use straighteners, then make sure you don't use them near your bonds. Conditioner softens the bonds resulting in loosening the extensions, and heat will melt them. Sleep with your hair in a pony-tail, and wash every other day. Your extensions should last up to 6 months if you look after them, However you can dye your own hair if there is no peroxide in it, dying your hair will harden the bonds, but you must read the ingredients very carefully first.

I've had extensions 3 times now, they can look fabulous, but try not to have it too long, cos it just looks like rats tails..... ask your stylist to cut into a shape, do not leave salon with only a trim, it is very important that it blends in to your hair.

Enjoy Hun

The easiest solution to your dilemma here is to ask the stylist about the tips %26amp; tricks for maintaining them. That person has much more experience with this than we do, unless one of us has ben a stylist for many years.
