How do you put thick, wavy hair into a ponytail?

I have thick and wavy hair that I try to put into a ponytail. When I put it up in a ponytail, I have to brush it for like 10 minutes just so that I don't have a part. But, about 5 minutes later it will basically fall apart so that you can see my part and my hair look all messed up. What should I do differently to keep my hair looking nice in a ponytail?

it dosent leave it stiff and fake looking

The best way I keep it up is by adding gel. It really could help, especially by how much of a hassle my job can be. Or you can try using moisturizers. They soften your hair, and make it look cute and bouncy.

Do you use any product or anything in your hair, this is like the 40th time I have suggested this product to sombody but it is very good so.... it is called revitafoam and it comes in a baby blue bottle, put this through your hair then just brush the front bit back into a ponytail very sleek and quite tight back, then leave your ponytail to dry naturally, oh by the way do all this when your hair is quite damp to wet!! = ]
